ESET Security Review

ESET’s suite is the best value for money. Its malware detection rate comes close to perfect and the suite offers an array of useful features within a tiny footprint. Premium versions include parental controls, a secure web browser and a password manager and the Android package comes with a theft prevention feature that will help you find your phone that has disappeared. The network protection features are also good, with an option for a firewall and to check your home devices for weaknesses.

SysInspector is a standout tool. It makes a snap and highlights important Registry entries and running processes. It can be intimidating for novices. However, if are familiar with extended task managers, such as those found in Sysinternals’ process explorer you will feel right at ease.

Another great feature is the ability to schedule on-demand scans. This is a nice alternative to real-time security, and it’s fast and easy to do. It’s a pity ESET doesn’t include it with other scheduling tasks and their UI makes it somewhat more difficult to locate than their competitors.

Other important features include a powerful form filler for online banking, an outstanding spam filter that earns the best scores in our tests, and a highly effective password manager that’s simple to use. The password manager is available in the premium version, and requires an ESET account, but it performs about as well as other standalone options I’ve tested.
